Description

This image is comprised of two photographs, one positioned above the other but taken in different centuries. The top photograph is a group portrait of firemen posed in front of a fire wagon cart in front of the fire station. There are approximately 40 men in the photograph, most in uniform. One man located on the lower left of the portrait and not in uniform, is an African-American. Behind this man, there is an old man with a long white beard. In addition to the large group of men posed in front of the station, there are men perched on a second story ledge as well as one man leaning out the window of the second story. The fire station has a large garage in the center of the building; the wooden doors of the garage are open. Beneath the photograph is the date 1860. The bottom photograph is a portrait of an open-top fire truck. The truck has a ladder on the side. The words, "Empire No. 1 Piermont NY" are painted on the side of the truck. There is a lantern suspended from the side of the truck. Handwritten on the lower left of the photograph is, "Mack 1.5 ton Hose Truck 688". Beneath the photograph, the words, "Mack 1.5 ton hode (sic) truck. 1926".
