Blight talks about Reconstruction as a referendum on the meaning of the Civil War, the Thirteenth Amendment and emancipation, dealing with all the deaths from the war, Walt Whitman, William Sherman, Garrison Frazier, Field Order No. 15, Sherman's March, the South in chaos, relationships between former masters and former slaves.
