Massachusetts Rock Against Racism
Description
'A World of Difference' television special, filmed at The Metro (a concert venue in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston) and which aired on WCVB Channel 5 on July 26, 1985. The concert was hosted by Lisa Karlin, Jose Masso, and Katy Abel, and features performances by George Benson, the O'Jays, Red Rockers, and Livingston Taylor, as well as by the Rainbow Dance Company of Boston. Reebee Garofalo speaks at 17:50 about Massachusetts Rock Against Racism, the history of Rock Against Racism organizations, and politically progressive musicians. There is a performance by the Rock Against Racism Rap and Break Crew at 37:05. The video includes a number of shorter segments involving popular artists who did not play in the special, but who recorded messages to support Rock Against Racism, including Santana, The Fools, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny, Jeffrey Osborne, Natalie Cole, and The Manhattans. The concert was a joint project of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, Greater Boston Civil Rights Coalition, Shawmut Banks, and WCVB-TV Boston.
