Description
Patti Nolan describes her family history starting with her great uncle Robert L. Mudd, who fought in the 24th infantry during the Spanish-American War. She talks about him moving to Missoula, Montana his discharge in 1915 and purchasing land for a house. Nolan reminisces about her father, John Nolan, who came to Missoula to live with his uncle when he was a young boy then eventually attended the University of Montana and opened Nolan’s Home and Office Cleaning Services. Nolan recalls graduating from Hellgate High School in 1966, then immediately moving to San Francisco, California, and later New York City. She talks about her career as a nurse and how she eventually moved back to Missoula. She also discusses her experiences with racism as the child of an African-American father and Native American mother. The interviewee reviewed and finalized this transcript.
