Description

In this WSB newsfilm clip from December 15, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speaks at an outdoor rally in Atlanta, Georgia about the need for immediate change in Atlanta's racial policies. King first notes the "urgency of now," and he refutes arguments often used by those opposed to integration. He calls those arguments a "stench in the nostrils of God." He quotes the Old Testament prophet Amos and speaks about justice. He also quotes Thomas Jefferson and emphasizes that "all men are created equal." The clip ends with King declaring that "the problems of Atlanta will not work themselves out," and he urges the crowd not to fall prey to this "illusion wrapped in superficiality."
