Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper. Number "11' is written in pencil on left side of front page. Purple postmarked stamp that says "Phelps Mss."John Greenleaf Whittier writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding his approval for the project of getting articles on Texas published for a Boston newspaper. He writes, "a series of able articles in the Atlas...would be extremely read & copied, and would reach our political men." He writes that John W. Browne of Lynn could be the man for undertaking the project. Whittier writes that Browne is "young and just commencing in practice as a lawyer and perhaps could need a hefty compensation for his services-If the Mass. Soc. could make an arrangement with him-I pledge my little knowledge of men & things that they would do a great service to the cause of Freedom." He writes of other politics and inquires about petitions that Phelps is circulating.
