Photograph of Atticus G. Haygood, a bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He wears eyeglasses and has a long white beard. He faces left. Haygood rose to national prominence around 1880 with a Thanksgiving speech and a book extolling the contributions of African Americans since emancipation. Haygood served as president of Emory College in Oxford from 1875 until 1884.
