This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 2:10, is a feature about journalist and author Paul Hemphill, Jr. and his father, Paul Hemphill, Sr. Both are interviewed by journalist Scott Ferguson. The younger Hemphill talks about the changing nature of his hometown, Birmingham, Alabama, his upcoming book, and about his alma mater, Auburn University. Hemphill's father, Paul Hemphill, Sr., offers his opinions on the cause of the Civil War and his anti union and anti environmental opinions. The second segment, which begins at 20:10, features former President Jimmy Carter describing his vision for his presidential library, museum and conference center that is being built in Atlanta. Carter talks about using the complex to host forums on healthcare, and peace in the Middle East. He envisions the complex could be utilized as "Camp David South" in which parties involved in international disputes could come and work out their differences. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis."Southwind" was a radio program about the issues, people, and culture of the South that aired on WABE-FM, Atlanta's public radio station. The series, which aired from 1980 to 1987, was conceived, produced, and reported by journalist Boyd Lewis.
