Others depict performers Marian Anderson and Paul Robeson, who appear in the mosaic murals she made for New York City’s 125th Street subway station. In this image, Ringgold recalls recuperating from asthma as a child, when her mother would provide her with crayons, paints, and pieces of cloth.
