In this WSB newsfilm clip, Herman Talmadge, United States senator from Georgia, speaks from the Senate floor in Washington, D.C., on August 3, 1962 about the rights of citizens, stating that majorities--not just minorities--have rights. He argues that "mob action whether violent or so-called nonviolent cannot be condoned if constitutional government is to be preserved. There can be no compromise with those who preach and practice it without creating anarchy." Talmadge charges civil rights activists in Albany of damaging the United States in foreign affairs and causing racial strife.
