Description

This folder includes many SNCC documents from 1963, including the text of John Lewis's 1963 March on Washington speech; the history of SNCC, 1960-1963; a SNCC reprint of a White Citizens Council flyer, "What Have I Personally Done to Maintain Segregation?"; "You Can Help Support Programs for SNCC" and other documents about Friends of SNCC groups. There's a 1966 SNCC memo stating that "the form of white participation, as practiced in the past, is now obsolete" and giving the reasons why, including discussions of Freedom Summer and the "Freedom Primer"; SNCC appeals for trading stamps and cars; clippings about the civil rights movement in a variety of locations, including Cairo, Illlinois; the running summary of incidents in Mississippi during Freedom Summer; and several 1964 copies of the Student Voice. The music of the civil rights movement, including reviews of SNCC "documentary LPs" and of the Freedom Singers, is featured in this folder, more than in most others.
