Rev. I. DeQuincey Newman arrives at the Fountain Bleau Inn in Columbia to great supporters after winning a seat in the South Carolina Senate. Newman, a Democrat, is the first African American to be elected to the Senate since Reconstruction. He will represent Richland, Fairfield and Chester Counties.
