This folder includes 1964 and 1965 documents pertaining to the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP). It contains two documents entitled "Mississippi: How Negro Democrats Fared": Part I is an account of the events of June 16, 1964 when blacks tried to participate in Democratic precincts in Mississippi, and Part II is an account of the events of June 23, 1964 when blacks tried to participate in Democratic county conventions. Both events were early stages in the process of becoming delegates to the Democratic National Convention. There's a 1965 COFO press release about young Mississippi blacks being denied a charter as "Young Democrats" by the Democratic Party of Mississippi.
