Emil Bott decorated the cabin with landscapes. She left Pittsburgh in latter April 1867 for the Upper Mississippi running the Keokuk Northern Line. On her first trip she hit the Rock Island bridge pier, May 4, 1867, crippling the starboard engine and doing damage to herself. In July 1869 a riot occurred on board at Hampton, Illinois. The riot between Negro roustabouts and drunken passengers resulted in several Negro deaths. She, along with the Lake Superior, burned in Alton Slough on the afternoon of March 4, 1879 while being readied for the spring seasonPHOTO DESCRIPTION: A drawing of the riot of July, 1869 at Hampton Illinois which resulted in several Negro deaths.
