Her hair is piled high on her head, and she faces forward and smiles.Perhaps best known for her sultry rendition of the song "Stormy Weather," which she performed in the 1943 film by the same name, singer Lena Horne spent much of her childhood in Fort Valley and Atlanta. A recipient of several honors commemorating her contributions to the performing arts, including a 1984 Kennedy Center Honor, Horne has also spent much of her life advocating for civil rights.
