Description

Irene West was part of the Women’s Political Council, and Carrie Hubbard was the wife of Reverend Hillman Hubbard of Bethel Baptist Church. The man seated to the right of Virginia Durr is probably Reverend A. W. Wilson of Holt Street Baptist Church. Martin Luther King, Sr., spoke during the program, which was held during the eleventh anniversary celebration of the Montgomery Improvement Association. This image was taken for (but not used in) the article "King Family's in Town" by Arlam Carr, Jr., which appeared on page 1 of The Southern Courier for December 10-11, 1966. The issue is available online (not on the ADAH website): http://www.southerncourier.org/low-res/Vol2_No50_1966_12_10.pdf
