Photograph of the exterior of Packard Hall on the campus of Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. The multistory brick structure features a two-sided staircase leading to the arched entrance. The name of the hall is written in white letters over the door. Two large trees grow on the front lawn.The Historically Black College and Universities Initiative, established in 1980 by U.S. president Jimmy Carter, works to provide grants to historically black campuses to preserve and protect their historic buildings. Packard Hall at Spelman College was identified as endangered in 1988 by the National Park Service.
