We’re back in New Madrid, Missouri, at the Memorial Library. As I told you last week, we had been down at the museum but we have moved up here and last week we had a real good conversation with Harold Sloas and this week I think we have someone who’s going to do equally as well, Arlene Avery, who’s been around here since the year one or before, I’m pretty sure, is with us today and we’re going to ask Arlene about his parents. Were they natives of this part of the country, Arlene? Arlene Avery: No, they were from Crockett County, Tennessee. Marshall Dial: Crockett County, Tennessee. When did they come over to Missouri or did they move over to Missouri? Arlene Avery: Well, they moved to Missouri in the ‘20s, early ‘20s, they moved to Arkansas one year and then to Missouri. Marshall Dial: Then to Missouri, and you were just a kid at that time? Arlene Avery: I was not out of high school. I was in the 8th grade when we moved, just entering the 8th grade. I hadn’t finished the 8th grade. I finished 8th grade in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Marshall Dial: Then you moved up to Missouri, right? Arlene Avery: Moved to Steele.
