The elderly African American (named Ned) tells the young man he was his father's slave; he asks the white man how is his (Ned's) family which still live on the plantation, and expresses the desire to return to Dixie; as they speak, onlookers cry; the white man says that everyone is ok, and that his father would be delighted to have Ned return.
