Description
Taylor Branch discusses his book, “Parting the Waters: America in the King Years, 1954-63.” Branch and Martinson begin by talking about King’s name change from Michael to Martin Luther after his father’s visit to Europe. Branch then goes on to discuss Vernon Johns, King’s philosophy and religion, the church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, and Rosa Parks. He also talks about John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Jerome Smith, Clarence Jones, attorney Stanley Levinson, Burke Marshall, Roy Wilkins, Ralph Abernathy, Medgar Evers, John Lewis, and King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
