This folder opens with an article by Howard Zinn about the jailhouse beating of Oscar Chase. It goes on to include a 24-hour incident summary of violent events in Mississippi on June 24, 1964 and on July 26-31, 1964; a memo to parents of Freedom Summer volunteers asking them to ask their elected officials to provide federal protection for civil rights workers and to support the seating challenge at the Democratic National Convention; a letter from a parents' organization soliciting volunteers' letters for book publication; a reprint of a speech by Russell H.
