Description
Art Rosenbaum records Joe Rakestraw on guitar and vocals in Athens, Georgia. Rakestraw tells the story behind "Buck" and "Market Street," two songs included in this recording. When Rakestraw was a child his brothers had a string band, and when they performed, they would bring along an entertainer named Jim Gresham along to dance. "Buck" was a song they would play at these dances. Rakestraw explains that "Market Street Blues" is about a man whose girlfriend was stolen by gypsies while they were getting their fortunes told on Market Street. Rakestraw's oldest brother Anderson played lead guitar on "Market Street Blues." His brothers played these songs when they were popular, some time before 1920. Songs: How Great Thou Art, Buck, Market Street Blues.Record Contributed By
