Visions of sound is a generative abstract sculpture piece that explores the connections between sound, content and form. The sculpture is a physical data representation of people’s perspectives within the African Diaspora on police brutality, using the Black lives matter movement as a case study. This project attempts to highlight certain issues, like police brutality, that are currently casting shadows within our community, and looks at ways to publicize people’s on-going debate surrounding the BLM movement in a more expressive manner than what we might see or hear on screen. The sound waves from certain stories will be used to generate the visual layout, which will then be sculpted from laser cut wood. The sculpture will be viewed using a traditional museum display setting – encased on a pedestal.
