This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 1:27, is a feature about the shooting of sixteen-year-old David Samples by a police officer in the Cabbagetown neighborhood in August of 1984. The program focuses on the establishment of civilian review boards in the case of police shootings. The program features audio excerpts from the mother of victim, Barbara Jackson; Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, Atlanta City Council members Ira Jackson, Myrtle Davis, and Marvin Arrington, as well as Roy Mays of the City of Atlanta Law Department. The second segment, which begins at 17:13, is a rebroadcast of a "Southwind" segment that aired in 1982 about he second segment, which begins at 10:00, is a feature about police concerns over terrorism. The program features audio excerpts from John Asholashi and Clarence Drum, chiefs of police in Connecticut; Federal Bureau of Investigation Director William Webster, and policeman Martin Delaureay at the 89th Conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police held in Atlanta. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis."Southwind" was a radio program about the issues, people, and culture of the South that aired on WABE-FM, Atlanta's public radio station. The series, which aired from 1980 to 1987, was conceived, produced, and reported by journalist Boyd Lewis.
