Description

This is a black and white photocopy of a photograph. The subjects are a group of men: four men standing behind five men seated on chairs. The men in the image have been identified in a handwritten note on the back of the page: "Jerry Roane, Issac Rowland, Squire Scwemp, Perry Robinson."There is also a black and white photocopy of the same photograph from a printed page. It looks like this picture was on the lower half of a page. There is a caption that likely relates to an image above this one. The printed caption for this image reads, "The august members of a Negro lodge in Lexington pose for Miley in their Sunday best. (8 x 10. c. 1900)." There are handwritten notes identifying the men in the image: "John Gooch, Hugh A. Williams, Will Price, Oceola Coles, Ulysees (?) Judge Fisher, [Harris in a different hand] Sam Jackson (?), Johnson Pettigrew, Julius Bibbs, James Stewart (Shields?)." There is an additional note in the left margin: Top to bottom, 1.?, 2. Wms, 3. Price, 4. Coles, 5. Fisher, 6. Jackson, 7. Pettigrew, 8. Bibbs, 9. Stewart.
