Description

This folder of correspondence shows the many roles Amzie Moore played in his community: as a county leader for COFO's welfare wing who was in charge of collecting and distributing clothing, food, and money to those who had lost their jobs or housing when they tried to register to vote; a candidate to be a civil rights fellow at Brandeis University; a member of the board of trustees for a proposed black radio station in Jackson; a participant in several civil rights organizations, including COFO, NAACP, SNCC, and the SCLC; a small businessman (gas station and cafe owner); a post office worker; a promoter of quilts through Project Home Industry in Ruleville; a promoter of a community center in Cleveland during Freedom Summer; and a frequent traveler and sought-after lecturer/group participant. In this folder is more evidence of Moore's monetary problems and white efforts to put him out of business, a proposal for a black radio station in Jackson, a fact sheet on HUAC's October 1963 r
