Handwritten copy of letter; not William Lloyd Garrison's handwriting. Whereabouts of original manuscript unknown.William Lloyd Garrison discusses the Chinese immigration question. He believes the attempt to exclude the Chinese is primarily based on local politics. He remarks on the great changes in public sentiment toward slavery but regrets the present hostile attitude of Southerners towards blacks. He mentions Mrs. Prudence Crandall (Philleo)'s school in Connecticut. Mrs. Prudence Crandall (Philleo)'s first colored pupil, Mrs. Fayerweather, is dead. George William Benson is living on a farm near Lawrence, Kansas.
