Description

Photograph of the corner of East Lombard and South Bond Streets in Baltimore, Maryland. In the rear of these three-story brick row houses are dilapidated room extensions and wooden porches. Behind the corner row house with a grocery store on the ground level is an old frame house with a lamppost at the curb. On the sidewalk by the lamppost stand two African American women talking. Advertising posters for products such as Popper’s Eight Center cigars, Clabber Girl baking powder, and Sun Spot, Dandy, and 7-Up sodas cover the wooden fence alongside of and behind the corner house. Walking back along the sidewalk by the corner house on this sunny day is a third African American woman, who appears to have stopped to adjust her shoe.
