Shipyard No. 1 of the Kaiser Company on May 7, 1943; Before christening the ship, Lena Horne, sponsor, made a whirlwind bond rally tour of three of the Kaiser yards and Richmond, selling more than $25,000 in war bonds; She is shown addressing one of the rallies.
