Photographed is Dr. Walter Jerrick (third from left) & Humbert Howard (fourth from left) at Pyramid Club. Howard was a well-known Philadelphia painter and graduate of West Philadelphia High School (1932) and eventually completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He also studied at the Barnes Foundation and the International Academy of Arts and Letters in Rome. Several of the paintings from his work as part of the 1930 Philadelphia Work Progress Administration Art Project were featured in the 1939 World’s Fair. In 1940 he served as the Director of the Pyramid Club. Jerrick, a physician, founded the all Black male Pyramid Club in 1937. Its mission was to foster the “cultural, civic, and social advancement of Negroes in Philadelphia.” In 1941 Dr. Jerrick headed the $20,000 drive for the Home for Aged and Infirm Colored Persons. From the years 1916-1952 in a time known as the Jerrick Years, Dr. Jerrick served as President of the Rho Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Frat
