Description
Paul Robeson was an exceptional athlete, actor, singer, cultural scholar, author, and political activist. Marian Anderson was a talented singer and the first African American singer to perform at the White House and the first African American to sing with New York's Metropolitan Opera. In this photograph, Liberia honors Marian Anderson at Tindley Temple United Methodist Church; seated behind her is First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt wife of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
