Richard Gould, a devout Christian, was a COFO volunteer in Vicksburg during Freedom Summer. This folder includes some issues of a newsletter about the Vicksburg Summer Project; letters to his wife; a diary of his experiences in Mississippi and of his training in Oxford, Ohio, in which he discusses his reasons for joining the civil rights movement; a report (sermon?) on his experiences in Mississippi; a summary of incidents in McComb during Freedom Summer; the SNCC report on "The General Condition of the Mississippi Negro"; "Facts of the MFDP Challenge"; a draft of the Methodist Student Union's endorsement of the MFDP challenge; a blank petition urging Lyndon Johnson to provide federal protection to civil rights workers; his own "Reflections on a Freedom March" in San Diego in 1963; a COFO plea for federal protection following the McComb bombing; a summary of incidents in Vicksburg from October 31-November 4, 1964; a list of COFO offices in Mississippi; a report on the bombing of the V
