Description

Photograph of the tip-off to a basketball game played in Baltimore as part of National Youth Administration (NYA) recreation program sponsored by the Operations Division of the Works Progress Administration of Maryland. The NYA leader, an African American man wearing a suit and tie and standing between two opposing players, has just tossed the basketball into the air. The members of the two teams, young African American men dressed in long-sleeved, collared shirts and trousers with suspenders, stand slightly crouched and ready to jump for the ball. The game is being played inside a wood-fenced yard on a brick court. (Part of NYA project #7012.)
