Description
Minutes log documenting meetings held between April 3rd, 1834 and October 7th, 1841 of the Hopewell presbytery. Various trials and ordination sermons for prospective new members were presented. The Presbytery took the Midway Seminary under its care from the Georgia Education Society and later resolved to found a Presbyterian College at Midway. After rumors that the abolitionist cause would be taken up by the General Assembly, the Hopewell Presbytery issued a statement in support of the institution of slavery. A resolution urging members to avoid dancing was passed and the question of how to fill ministerial vacancies was taken up.Record Contributed By
