Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.There appear to be x's through the incomplete letter during certain passages.This letter is an incomplete one that starts on page 5 from George Thompson to unknown in which he sends a copy of a speech by Thomas Clarkson intended for delivery at the opening of the convention of 1840. He writes, "The Glasgow Society has taken notice of the conduct of the Free Church of Scotland and its deputation, in the matter of bringing the money of slaveholders into the Treasury of the Protesting Church." Henry Clarke Wright made a speech about it which Thompson admired. He wonders what the Presbyterian Societies will say to it when they see what is going on. He apologizes for not sending anything written for the annual bazaar and promises to contribute for the next one. The free traders are rejoicing over the defeat of Henry Clay. He is occupied with Indian affairs.
