As a Democrat, he served in the Missouri House, Missouri Senate, and U.S. Congress for a continuous span of thirty years, beginning with his first election in 1956. For his most recent biographic entry, see the Official Manual of the State of Missouri, 1987-1988. Researchers are also referred to the collection of Robert A. Young papers in the Western Historical Manuscript Collection, St. Louis, Missouri. We held the session -- the first of an anticipated two or three -- at Congressman Youngs home in the St. Louis County township of Maryland Heights, Missouri. Congressman Young gave me a friendly tour of various works of art and items of state and national political memorabilia (including a couple of Dan Rostenkowskis chairs) in his house before I set up the recording equipment in his living room.An Interview with Robert A.
