Excerpts from an interview with civil rights activists Bernard LaFayette, Jr., James Bevel and Ernest Rip Patton conducted on 17 January 2003 by Kathryn G. Bennett. In the excerpts Rev. Bernard LaFayette, Jr. discusses his decision as a young man to turn down a journalism scholarship to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University; Rev. James Bevel discusses the influence Rev. Kelly Miller Smith and other civil rights leaders had on his career; and LaFayette discusses James Bevel and the origins of the Selma March.
