Description

This detail of Murfeesboro from the 1878 Beers map of Rutherford County shows the early development of the sixth ward African American neighborhood near the public square. A Baptist church (Col. Bapt. Ch.) was located on the corner of Sevier and Spring, and another church (Col. Ch.) was on State Street.
