Description

The scrapbook consists primarily of newspaper clippings but also includes programs, correspondence, photographs, certificates, and other ephemera from Shores's legal and political work. A key topic in the scrapbook is Shores's work to achieve school desegregation and his defense of Autherine Lucy, whose University of Alabama application is included in the scrapbook. In addition to his work as a lawyer, the scrapbook traces Shores's other professional and political activities including appointments, invitations, and speaking engagements. It is particularly rich in details regarding his work in the Birmingham City Council and in the state and national Democratic Party. The scrapbook contains scattered photographs and includes many certificates. (Blank pages have not been scanned, though they were included in the numbering.)
