Description
The young women were two of the first three African American students to attend the school. The integration took place in September 1964, when Susie was a sophomore and Shirley was a senior. This image was taken for (but not used in) the article "Montgomery's First Year of School Integration" by Geoffrey Cowan, which appeared on page 4 of The Southern Courier for August 6, 1965.
