Description

"A Resolution Ratifying the fifteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States."House Resolution No. 2 was read and adopted by both the House and Senate of the Georgia General Assembly on February 2, 1870. The Fifteenth Amendment guaranteed citizens the right to vote regardless of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. Adoption of the Fifteenth Amendment was required for Georgia to be readmitted to the Union after Federal troops reoccupied the state on December 22, 1869. The Fifteenth Amendment was ratified and became a part of the United States Constitution on February 3, 1870.
