Holograph, signedTitle devised by catalogerManuscript includes a typset circular advertising the "Jerry Rescue Celebration" to take place in Syracuse, N.Y. on October 1, 1852. This call details the general history and priniciples of the rescue and the meeting, and lists those who have been engaged to speak at the eventSamuel Joseph May writes William Lloyd Garrison at the behest of the Committee of Arrangements to invite Garrison to speak at the "Jerry Rescue Convention" on October 1st, arguing that they are in need of Garrison's eloquence in order to "give a sutiable expression of the sentiments of liberty, hatred of oppression, and determination to withstand the Fugitive Slave law". May informs Garrison that the committee has unanimously voted to pay for all of Garrison expenses for the celebration. May requests that Garrison "not fail to let us have a letter" in the event that he is unable to join them
