Full-length photograph of Eugene Bullard, who was the world's first black combat aviator. Facing forward, he stands with his hands behind his back; he wears a flight suit and knee-high boots. Bullard flew in French squadrons during World War I (1917-18). Before he became a pilot he served in the French infantry and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Bullard was a native of Columbus, Georgia.
