Group portrait of attendees of the first bi-state Conference of the National Beauty Culturists and Benevolent Association of Mme C.J. Walker Agents of North and South Carolina, held in Charlotte in November, 1924. These agents worked for entrepreneur and philanthropist Madam C.J. Walker selling her personal line of beauty products and instructing customers on hygiene and appearance. This organization was formed in 1916 and later changed its name to the Madam C.J Walker Hair Culturists Union of America. At the right of the photo, the male standing in the front row of the group is F. B. Ransom. He is standing between instructor Alice Burnett and beauty school supervisor Marjorie Joyner.
