Description

Crowd lined up to see Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band" outside the Esquire Theatre, 211 E. 12th St., Kansas City, Mo. Note attached to photo: 57 years ago today, August 19th, on my 25th birthday, I opened a new, downtown movie theater, the Fox Esquire with the historic, 20th Century-Fox musical, "Alexander's Ragtime Band". Opening day ticket line was a block long! Women wore hats then... even in the summertime! (so did some men).August 19, 1938Digitizing agency: University of Missouri--Kansas City. Library.
