Description
This school segregation complaint was filed by plaintiffs Mae Willie Lumpkin, Helen Vernell Johnson, Barbara Henderson and Mary Diaz against John Dempsey, Governor of Connecticut, John Dempsey, on behalf of their fifteen children and the other non-white children of Hartford. Under the Thirteen and Fourteenth amendments in the United States Constitution and the 1965 education amendment to the Connecticut constitution, plaintiffs argue that their children did not receive guaranteed equal educational opportunities, in comparison to their suburban counterparts.
