Description
Correspondence, speeches, and other documents sent to and from Will H. Hays during the 1940s. Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Harding's presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). Besides general political and personal papers, there are also materials concerning the 1940 Republican National Convention and the nomination for the party's presidential candidate.
