Description
Correspondence, speeches, and other documents sent to and from Will H. Hays during the 1920s. Born in Sullivan, Indiana in 1879, Hays served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (February 1918-June 1921); manager of Warren G. Harding's presidential campaign (1920); U.S. postmaster general (March 1921-March 1922); and president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA) (1922-1945). In addition to materials related to Hays' personal and professional interests, this folder contains correspondence about the Vermejo Club, Hays' album of signed photographs, job requests and recommendations, invitations to join organizations and attend events, the First National-College Humor talent search, and the development of a report regarding the Indiana Council of Defense to be placed in the cornerstone of the Indiana World War Memorial. It also includes a press release listing the members of the MPPDA's Board of Directors, a letter and promotional pamphlet from the singer Della Baker, and a resolution passed by the Association of Motion Picture Producers and the MPPDA which lists several subjects that cannot appear in motion pictures.
