Description

Silas H. Hunt was the first African American student to be admitted to the University of Arkansas. He was admitted to the Law School in 1948, making Hunt the first black student to be admitted to an all-white southern university without a law suit. Hunt only attended one semester before becoming gravely ill. He died in 1949 but not before he broke the color barrier at the U of A. Silas H. Hunt Hall was dedicated on February 6, 1993.
