Description

South Carolina Governor Robert McNair holds a press conference and answers questions following the shooting of unarmed protesters by S. C. Highway Patrol officers in Orangeburg. [Despite statements of sniper fire, there is no evidence that anyone in the crowd shot at officers or carried guns.] The protesters were primarily students from Claflin University and SC State College (SC State University), protesting a segregated bowling alley. Three students were killed and over 30 were injured. Governor McNair declares a state of emergency and imposes a curfew.
